Reading this felt like watching an artist with engineering in his veins, shaping complex protocols into something vivid, memorable and easy to grasp. Amazing!

Your words carry the same precision as OPC UA, the same lightness as MQTT, and the same clarity as REST at its best. You don’t just explain, you translate complexity into something human, something that invites curiosity instead of fear.

The way you combine deep technical enlightment with storytelling that brings technology to life it’s something truly captivating.

Your fabulous article made me think about other protocols — like PROFINET, EtherCAT or Modbus — that still run the heartbeat of so many factory floors for real time communication. How they coexist with OPC UA, MQTT, and REST opens up both: hidden challenges and untapped opportunities.

If you add in segmented networks, edge computing or the constant pressure of cybersecurity (where every connection is both, a data lifeline and a potential risk) the story becomes even more complex. Exploring how all these layers interact could be an idea for a fascinating follow-up article in a similar style.

Thank you so much for sharing this, Svenja. Your comment absolutly made my day.

It’s incredibly rewarding to see the post connect with someone who clearly brings their own deep insights to the table. You’ve touched on some of the most exciting aspects of this topic: the protocols that still quietly run the world and how they intersect with new layers like edge computing and cybersecurity challenges.

Hearing your perspective not only encourages me, it gets me genuinely excited to keep digging into these themes. Thanks again for taking the time. Comments like yours are exactly why I love writing about this!

Damn, this is *excellent* - such a great read. I love all the real world examples and comparisons to relatable things. My only potential quibble got addressed in Quick Comparison Table - before seeing that I had several moment of thinking "What about security?"

Wow, thank you, Patrick, that means a lot! I really wanted this piece to feel grounded in reality, so it’s awesome to hear the examples landed.

And yes, totally with you on the security part. It’s so central and I went back and forth on where to place it. In the end, I tried to weave it into the comparison table and the “Advanced Readers” bit near the end, but I might surface it earlier next time based on your feedback.

Thanks again for reading (and thinking critically!). Appreciate it.

I mean, it could get a brief mention up above maybe - but the post is absolutely great the way it is
